Lancome Rouge In Love lipstick swatches, review, Lancome red lipstick

I may not have been a fan of Harry Potter (each to their own), but when I saw the press release of Emma Watson in the Lancôme ads for their two new collections – Rouge In Love and Vernis In Love – my jaw dropped!!!  She looks stunning and I want what she’s wearing!!!

On Emma’s lips is the Lancôme Rouge In Love Lipstick in, what I speculate is, 185N Rouge Valentine or 159B Rouge In Love.  Will be confirmed ASAP and when I find out, I will update this.  Against her flawless porcelain skin, this rich red colour really pops!

As for the packaging, Lancôme have won my heart with the sexy silver casing which will appeal to the younger generation for sure!

I have a review, photos and swatches coming next month!  Keep your eyes peeled!

With Valentine’s Day coming up next week, I have been on the hunt for a red lipstick to channel my inner seductress.  And I am pleased to let you know that I have found The One.  Ladies, please allow me to introduce you to Arbonne Lipstick in Strawberry.

My Thoughts

Arbonne is a brand that I was introduced to last year when a PR contacted me and after trialling a few products, I was smitten.  (See review here)  Their products aren’t available in shops though and they are like Avon where you need to find an Arbonne rep.  For more information, here’s their website.

Everything about Arbonne Lipstick in Strawberry can be described in one word – SEXY!  The sleek gun-metal packaging is luxe.  And then the siren red is SEXY!!!  Which means when I wear it, I feel sexy too!  “I’m sexy and I know it!  Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle!”

It also helps that this blue-based red makes my teeth look super-duper-white!

The small slanted bullet makes it easy to shape my cupid’s bow.  And oh myyyyyy, the formula is amazing!  It glides on with ease with great pigmentation and has a satin finish.  It’s moisturising and nourishes my lips.  Heck, there’s no need for a lip primer.

Unscented lipsticks are the bee’s knees.  Arbonne lipstick has no smell and no yukky taste.

The lasting power is impressive and done well against a bowl of soup noodles.  However, as with all red lippies, I would recommend lining and filling lips with a red lip pencil prior to application.

I can definitely say that Arbonne Lipstick in Strawberry is my HG (Holy Grail) red lipstick.  Yes, there you go!  I have said it!!!!  It is PERFECT!

Last month in Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to buy their infamous (but discontinued) Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon.  I was ready to pay and go.  But the Chanel SA insisted that they’d try it on my lips first…and oh boy, I looked awful.  AWFUL!!!  As I don’t have that in my collection, I can’t really compare the two shades…but from memory, they are rather similar; being blue-based reds.  I think…?  Any ideas, ladies?

Have you found your perfect red lipstick?  What’s gonna be on your lips on Valentine’s Day?  Please don’t say your partner’s lips!!  LOL!

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter is a hybrid of lip balm and lipstick.  The beauty blogosphere has been buzzing about Revlon Lip Butters so when I saw them in Hong Kong last month, I needed to see what the hype was all about.  I swatched the 10 available shades in Hong Kong and chose 2 to come home with me – Macaroon 096 and Pink Truffle 001.  I had already picked Lollipop prior to swatching, but was sad to see that this shade wasn’t available.  Revlon Lip Butters are not yet released in Australia but that’s what ebay is for.

(UPDATE : Check out my Revlon Lip Butter swatches of Cotton Candy, Lollipop, Sweet Tart, Tutti Frutti and Peach Parfait)

Packaging : 5/10
Because my brain is bamboozled by this lipstick and lip balm hybrid, I cannot decide whether I like the packaging or not.  I mean, it’s not luxe but it’s not el cheapo.  I have to sit on the fence for this one.

Shade : 8/10
I wonder why they named this shade Macaroon because it doesn’t remind me of macaroons nor macarons…but it’s a semi-sheer maroon shade with gold microshimmer.  It adds a nice pop of colour on lips without being an attention-seeking red lippy.  It’s definitely suitable for all occasions.

Scent/Taste : 9/10
There is a faint vanilla scent when I put it right near my nasal passages and sniff it; but otherwise, I can’t detect it.

Formula : 6.5/10
I had read a number of reviews about how these Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters weren’t that hydrating and buttery smooth so I was well prepped – in terms of expectation but also with priming lips prior to application.  Definitely not suitable when my lips are flaking out!

For my lips, I need 3-4 swipes before I am happy with the colour uniformity as it applies rather patchy-like.  But good thing is that it can be applied directly from the tube and it doesn’t bleed.

Performance : 7/10
Staying power isn’t the greatest but then again, I’ve been eating a lot of snacks these days and drinking lots of iced green tea so that doesn’t help.  It fades quite well.

Total = 35.5 /50

Honestly speaking, I don’t see what the big fuss is all about with Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters.  As a lip balm, it doesn’t work very well because it doesn’t heal my cracked lips and can actually dry out my lips if I wear it without primer.  As a lipstick, it needs to improve it’s formula so that I don’t have to swipe multiple times to achieve colour uniformity.

But nevertheless, I am rather fond of this Macaroon shade with its enticing gold microshimmer.  Do I regret not buying a few more shades?  Nah, not really!

NARS lip swatch, Carthage

Sarah says :

Ahhhhhh Nars Carthage… it was love at first sight. You were such a show off and everyone admired you… but I just knew that we were meant to be together. I mean all the indicators were there! I loved matte formulas; I was yet to have my first experience with a hot pink and you were so pretty… I like pretty things *wink*; and you loved to have fun and needed someone in good condition. PERFECT MATCH.
Oh and what fun we had together!! You really knew how to work a room! I was a bit shy at first… but you eased me in. And before I knew it, I was soaking up all the compliments at the party. You devil YOU!
But you do come at a price… AUD 48.00 to be exact. But you’re well worth it I’d say.

Today we are lip stalking the beautiful Rosemary Slade and she has chosen the perfect shade for summer.  I’ll shut up and let the pictures do the talking…

Rosemary says :

This is a pic of my new favourite lipstick: INGLOT Slim Gel Lipstick in 40. My friend Sarah from Hip&Haute recommended this lipstick to me because I was actually looking for a shade that was similar to Butter London’s nail polish “trout pout”. I loved the beautiful pinkish-coral so much that I wanted to wear it on my lips!

I adore this lipstick, it’s such a perfect pretty coral. The pigment is amazing, it’s so creamy and I love the way it lights up my face and puts some colour in my cheeks.

This is my first ever INGLOT lipstick, and I’m in love <3

Definitely an everyday indulgence. Just wearing it makes me feel like I’m spoiling myself.

The RRP is only $27.00, absolutely worth it!

What type of lip art do you create when you have bad lighting and 5 minutes to film before your camera battery dies?  Two tone lips!!  It isn’t my best lip art but I do kinda like it.  I was inspired by the Cheryl Cole coral top and purple flares she sported on her first day at X Factor USA before she got the sack.  If you’re confused about what I am talking about – just Google it!  Enough yapping and enjoy…

Lip products featured are Elizabeth Arden Advanced Lip-Fix Cream, Missha Creamy Matte Lip Rouge OR01, Arbonne Lipstick in Vintage Rose, Lanolips Lip Ointment with Colour SPF 15 in Sunshine and Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss in Doug.

Concealer is Shu Uemura Mark Cealer (which I believe is now discontinued…*cries*)
