Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter is a hybrid of lip balm and lipstick. The beauty blogosphere has been buzzing about Revlon Lip Butters so when I saw them in Hong Kong last month, I needed to see what the hype was all about. I swatched the 10 available shades in Hong Kong and chose 2 to come home with me – Macaroon 096 and Pink Truffle 001. I had already picked Lollipop prior to swatching, but was sad to see that this shade wasn’t available. Revlon Lip Butters are not yet released in Australia but that’s what ebay is for.

Packaging : 5/10
Because my brain is bamboozled by this lipstick and lip balm hybrid, I cannot decide whether I like the packaging or not. I mean, it’s not luxe but it’s not el cheapo. I have to sit on the fence for this one.
Shade : 8/10
I wonder why they named this shade Macaroon because it doesn’t remind me of macaroons nor macarons…but it’s a semi-sheer maroon shade with gold microshimmer. It adds a nice pop of colour on lips without being an attention-seeking red lippy. It’s definitely suitable for all occasions.
Scent/Taste : 9/10
There is a faint vanilla scent when I put it right near my nasal passages and sniff it; but otherwise, I can’t detect it.
Formula : 6.5/10
I had read a number of reviews about how these Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters weren’t that hydrating and buttery smooth so I was well prepped – in terms of expectation but also with priming lips prior to application. Definitely not suitable when my lips are flaking out!
For my lips, I need 3-4 swipes before I am happy with the colour uniformity as it applies rather patchy-like. But good thing is that it can be applied directly from the tube and it doesn’t bleed.
Performance : 7/10
Staying power isn’t the greatest but then again, I’ve been eating a lot of snacks these days and drinking lots of iced green tea so that doesn’t help. It fades quite well.
Total = 35.5 /50
Honestly speaking, I don’t see what the big fuss is all about with Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters. As a lip balm, it doesn’t work very well because it doesn’t heal my cracked lips and can actually dry out my lips if I wear it without primer. As a lipstick, it needs to improve it’s formula so that I don’t have to swipe multiple times to achieve colour uniformity.
But nevertheless, I am rather fond of this Macaroon shade with its enticing gold microshimmer. Do I regret not buying a few more shades? Nah, not really!

I haven’t tried these yet, but you are one of the first for a not-hyped review! Still waiting for these to arrive to Aussie!! I think L’Oreal has came out with something similar, have you seen Priceline?? *not entirely sure though*
Thank you for the review!

But yeah, I did see something similar in Priceline… I love Priceline LOL!!
I bought two and I wasn’t terribly impressed. I don’t plan on picking up more.
Nice review! I just got my macaroon yesterday and really beautiful ^^
